Mobile Eyecare is an independent mobile optometry practice which conducts eye examinations on site at schools and at 'Hop Skip Jump' a paediatric allied health clinic in Ashburton. The optometrist at Mobile Eyecare provides comprehensive eye examinations for children with extended appointment times to ensure a thorough and relaxed experience.
The eye examinations are tailored to meet the needs of school aged children. We assess all aspects of your child's vision to ensure that their visual system is at its optimum for classroom learning. The initial eye examination includes:
* A questionnaire for parent and/or teacher to be completed before the eye examination
*Distance vision testing including refraction (how the eyes are focussing)
*Near vision testing
*Binocular vision assessment (how the eyes work together)
*Depth perception
*Colour vision testing
*Eye muscle movements
*Ocular motor skills assessment
*Eye health assessment
Most learning occurs through visual cues, with research finding a connection between visual abilities and academic achievement. Children may have good distance vision on the letter chart, yet may still experience difficulties due to problems with near vision or binocular vision disorders which strain the visual system. These conditions can affect the visual performance of a child, leading to reading, writing, spelling and board work difficulties. It is important that children have their eyes examined regularly in order to identify vision problems early before they impact learning.
Eyecare professionals recommend eye examinations every 2 years with follow-up as necessary to ensure optimum visual function and eye health.
